How to Use Reward Systems to Achieve Strategic Goals

Does your organization's reward system truly motivate employees to engage in behaviors that support strategic goals? Conventional wisdom (and substantive research) tells us that employees focus on the things organizations choose to reward. Yet, organizations often overlook the key role that their reward systems play in effecting - or in blocking - desired changes in today's dynamic workplaces. Stated simply, there is a mismatch between the behaviors and outcomes that organizations say that they want and those that they reward. This session addresses ways to align reward systems effectively with business strategy.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this session participants will be able to:

  1. Explain the reason for focusing on total rewards.
  2. Describe the importance of aligning reward systems with business goals.
  3. Identify the characteristics of an aligned reward system.
  4. Explain the steps necessary to implement a total rewards system.
  5. Describe the critical success factors in an effective total rewards system.
